to make a fuller intro post:

education:

i have a b.a. in english from a small, liberal arts college.
i went to grad school for medieval literature in england.
i'm currently a law student in oregon.

music:

i typically enjoy fusion music like dengue fever, gogol bordello, dj click, balkan beatbox and lee-hom. in part because i've traveled all over the world, and it reminds me of traveling. in part because it's awesome. and also because it's like music made for we multicultural mutts, fitting in nowhere and everywhere. i know, i can get really overanalytical.
i also like the smiths, the mountain goats, ladytron, the faint, the extra glenns.

tv:

deadwood, twin peaks, antiques roadshow, house

movies:

cronenberg, lynch, pee-wee's big adventure.

little bio:

grew up in los angeles. i had a complicated home life. i have a full brother, with whom i'm close. an older half brother and a very young (technically) step sister. i have a severe cardiac disability and a severe sleep disorder. this resulted in several life changing events in which i almost died and had open heart surgery. it put my life on hold for several years during which i was very isolated. in addition, my insurance company refused to cover my open heart surgery. consequently, when all was said and done and i was able to work again, i got involved in health law. i also volunteer with the homeless. basically, i talk, eat sandwiches, play poker. shoot the shit and normalize. i just know what being alone for years takes away from you.

i often think about:

critical race theory
trauma
disability in [art/fashion/exploitation/insert something else]

i collect:

war things. and then i decorate my place with them. vintage gas masks, vintage posters, trench art. stuff like that.

why do i collect these things? because there's not much of a market for art made by any other class of people who experienced isolation, massive surgery, extreme sleep dep &c. not saying i went through half of what they did. just saying it's nice to see and hold expressions of people who have experienced something *similar* to what i have. consequently, my fave authors tend to be the lost generation, too.

thanks for reading.

i liked this one a lot. enough to make it public, even. somehow it spoke uncannily to the mood recently. and maybe uncannily to the mood for all 6 years of my journal's existence.

'what can i do to make her feel better?'

'i don't know, there are no quick answers.'

'i know of a pill that'll do that. but it has a side effect.'

'what's that?'

'it wears off.'
