my sister's cat does that all the time and it amuses us/annoys the cat no end when we pick up some box or bag and it's inside!
anyways, thanks so much for those comments about 'asian jokes' in 'oh no they didn't'. i'm not a member but reading those and how eloquently you wrote back made my day! (after a final exam today... thanks!) i'm asian and it's so tiring 'defending' my race when i shouldn't have to but now i feel i should. so thanks! = )
thanks for the comment. i'm glad people liked what i said. i was really fed up.
i know what you mean. for a long time i didn't, and admittedly, for a long time i thought that being p.c. was a little ridiculous. but i grew up really lucky in southern california and then went to a liberal arts school with really intelligent people where everyone WAS politically correct and treated people with respect. somehow it didn't really reach my mind until a little later that people out there still didn't realise that racism was rampant. in fact, i think it was the abercrombie and fitch fiasco that made me realise that people didn't get it and that so many people in other ethnic communities aside from black not only sat there and took it, but actively catered to it to appeal to the white audience. i see lots of asian caricatures on asian restaurants. i guess we have a long way to go.
perhaps people find asian stereotypes not so damaging because, golly, ancient asian wisdom is flattering, in fact. masters of judo, wise confucius says-isms, exotic mysterious women, good at math, why should we complain? we're only using that and gongs to sell video games, i mean. not like lazy people and watermelons to sell fried chicken. in general, though, i am appalled at the constant barrage of being told to take it for humour's sake.
